Sonoma, California - As the sun began to make its way toward the horizon during the Friday installment of the Sonoma Raceway Presented by Crowdstrike event, the 2022 Fanatec GT World Challenge America Presented by AWS season continued on. Ideal track temperatures and cool, refreshing ambient temperatures ensured an ever-increasing pace during Practice Session 2.
In Pro, Andrea Caldarelli set the fastest lap of the class in the #1 K-PAX Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 with a 1:36.444. Not far behind was Loris Spinelli with a 1:39.246 in the #6 US Racetronics Mercedes-AMG GT3, followed by Phillip Ellis setting a 1:39.316 in the #33 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.
In Pro/Am, Robby Foley laid down a blistering 1:36.656 behind the wheel of the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M4 GT3. Bryan Sellers laid down the second-fastest lap in the #08 DXDT Racing Mercedes AMG-GT3 with a 1:37.131, followed by Justin Wetherill behind the wheel of the #13 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 with a 1:37308.
Around midway through the session, The #93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 suffered a minor fire on track, prompting a lengthy red flag.
Finally, the Am field saw a quickest time of 1:37.147, which was claimed by #61 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 piloted by Conrad Grunewald. Not far behind them were Onofrio Triarsi and Charlie Scardina in the #23 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 with a 1:39.797.
World-class sports car racing continues Saturday, with qualifying beginning at 10:00 AM Pacific, followed by Race 1 at 2:15 PM.
