GMG Racing pulls double-duty this weekend on the Formula 1 circuits at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and Circuit of The Americas (COTA) with a total five car entry across four different SRO America and IMSA sports car racing series. The trio of Kyle Washington, Tom Sargent and Klaus Bachler headlines the card in Saturday's SRO Intercontinental GT Challenge Indianapolis 8 Hour in the black No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, but four more GMG Racing entries will battle for season championships and additional 2025 race wins at both the Brickyard and at COTA in Texas from today through Sunday.
The No. 32 Porsche team hits the bricks at Indy fast off of a strong showing for Washington and Sargent one race ago when they scored a double podium GT World Challenge America finish at Barber Motorsports Park in August. The Alabama weekend was capped by a race-leading performance from the pole and a near-victory in Sunday's second and final 90-minute race of the weekend.
Bachler returns to the No. 32 squad for the first time since competing with GMG Racing in 2022 in both the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Indy 8 Hour.
"Looking forward to being back for the Indy 8 Hour," Bachler said. "I missed it last year, so I’m super excited to return in 2025! I drove for GMG in 2022 at both the Indy 8 Hour and the Rolex 24 At Daytona, and we finished on the podium in our class at Indy. I will give everything to support the team, Kyle and Tom in their GT World Challenge America campaign. We will push hard and hopefully fight for the class win!”
Sargent completes his second season at Indianapolis as Washington's year-long GT World Challenge America co-driver.
"I am super excited to be able to finish out the year at the Indianapolis 8 Hour," Sargent said. "We showed some good speed last year but weren't able to get the result in the end. This time it is great to have Klaus join us as well. I'm excited to be able to work with a Porsche factory driver again and to help better myself and the team. Klaus has raced with Kyle, James and the GMG Racing team before, and hopefully we all can be part of a winning reunion this weekend. And of course, it is always special to be able to race at this historic Indianapolis track again!”
Meanwhile, Sofronas comes to Indianapolis on the brink of his and GMG Racing's first championship since 2018. That year Sofronas co-drove to the Pirelli World Challenge GTS SprintX title in a GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4.
This weekend, Sofronas can go into the record books as one of the inaugural McLaren Trophy America champions in the first year of competition for the series.
"From the start of the season, the main goal for me in entering the McLaren Trophy championship was to fully understand and develop the McLaren platform," Sofronas said. "I am personally doing a lot of the learning with the GMG Racing team up front, and it's our clients who will benefit the most. Winning a championship is the secondary goal, but so far we have been fortunate to be on track for a tile. As always, until it's over, it's not done, but I am excited to go back to Indy after having a win in Carrera Cup here last month. We will push to wrap up the Am drivers championship and may have a shot at the McLaren Trophy team championship too."
A McLaren Trophy title this weekend would be the fifth career SRO championship for Sofronas and GMG Racing's seventh. Sofronas was also the 2017 SprintX-GT Pro/Am class champion in the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
"We started with a Porsche, grew our business alongside Porsche and will always be racing with Porsche," Sofronas said. "Porsche is part of our DNA, but we also take pride in undertaking successful programs with other manufacturers and achieving race and championship-winning success. We won a GTS-A Championship with George Kurtz in a McLaren 570 GT4 back in 2017, so it would once again be an honor to be one of the inaugural McLaren Trophy champions. We are also right in line with our Porsche heritage with at least a mathematical chance for Kyle Washington to win the GT America title this weekend. Patrick Mulcahy also well represents GMG Racing's Porsche program at COTA and will no doubt be in the hunt for another race win after taking his first series victory at Indianapolis when I was able to join him in sweeping the weekend's Carrera Cup Pro-Am wins."
In addition to competing in the Indy 8 Hour, Washington races in the season-ending GT America doubleheader this weekend in the white No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Washington is second in the GT America championship and has a longshot chance of winning the title his weekend, a testimony to the solid and race-winning season he has accomplished in the single driver sprint race series. His third place finish in the most recent race weekend at Barber Motorsports Park was his 10th top-three GT America showing of the year. His 2025 record includes at least one podium result on each of the seven doubleheader weekends to date, with the season-ending Rounds 15 and 16 set for this Friday and Sunday. Washington's GT America race wins this year were at Sonoma Raceway, COTA and Sebring International Raceway.
At COTA, first-year team driver Mulcahy carries the GMG Racing flag in the season-ending Carrera Cup North America doubleheader. Mulcahy and Sofronas secured another milestone weekend of competition for GMG Racing last month at Indy where the Pro-Am-class teammates won both of the weekend's IMSA Carrera Cup North America rounds at the Racing Capital of the World. Mulcahy's win was his first in his rookie season of Carrera Cup competition.
"Most of the tracks are new for me this year, including Circuit of The Americas," Mulcahy said. "Honestly, Road America is actually the only one I had been to before, but we did test at COTA a few weeks ago. That was my first time there, but we had some strong pace, and I am feeling really good and prepared come this weekend. On the simulator, I'm not a big COTA fan, but after being there in real life, it's a whole other experience. It actually is an amazing track. It's got a little bit of everything, technical, high speed, you name it, including big braking zones, a lot of track and very wide. So that's typically what makes for good racing for at a track."
The fifth and final GMG Racing contender this weekend is longtime team driver CJ Moses in his fan-favorite No. 58 GMG Racing/CrowdStrike/AWS Audi R8 LMS GT2. Moses earned an uncontested GT2 race weekend sweep last July at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) but welcomes some competition in the GT2 class this weekend.
"It's always better when we have CJ with us in the paddock, and he has driven some of his best races this year with us despite a limited schedule due to his vast work commitments," Sofronas said. "He always does well at Indy where we look forward to joining him in ending the year on a high note."
All of the weekend's from Indianapolis air live on RACER TV and the GTWorld YouTube channel. The Carrera Cup doubleheader at COTA can be viewed on NBC's Peacock network.
