Sonoma Sets Record-Setting Pace for SRO

SRO Motorsports America hosted its first all-series event weekend at Sonoma Raceway from Friday, March 31, through Saturday, April 2. The three-day event showcased the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, GT America powered by AWS, Pirelli GT America, TC America powered by Skip Barber and the all-new Toyota GR Cup North America. 

Fans and teams alike noted the enhanced atmosphere and overall energy of the event. SRO America hosted over 16,000 fans throughout the weekend, while over a million viewers watched the nearly 15 hours of racing on Twitch hosted by Ash Vandelay and 350 thousand fans joined the live stream on the SRO YouTube page GT World. 

In addition to the racing on-track, fans who attended in person enjoyed the many activations of some of their favorite brands. Porsche Marin entertained fans with its vintage transport bus while EBOOST energized fans through free Super Fuel drinks next door. ROK Sonoma brought out go-karts and karters alike to meet fans while the go-karters clamored to meet SRO America drivers.

Nissan brought out a broad lineup of cars for fans to view and shop and hosted a rally to the car corral on site. The Porsche car corral, put on by PCA Redwood Region, also built out much of the hillside in Sonoma. Also on display were Optima Battery and ROWE Motor Oil, the new pole award sponsor. Meanwhile, fans could purchase their favorite team, driver and series merchandise at the Styled Aesthetic booth.

On the track, all five series had memorable kickoff weekends, with GT America powered by AWS continuing competition after starting 2023 with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. A host of teams and drivers took home awards along with race wins.

In the Fanatec GT World Challenge America series, Daniel Morad and Colin Braun took home the CrowdStrike Fast Lap awards. Eric Filgueiras and John Edwards were both ROWE Motor Oil Pole Award winners. The EBOOST Hard Charger Award went to Spencer Pumpelly and Manny Franco. All in Race One and Race Two, respectively.

The GT America powered by AWS series continued race action and crowned more winners as the championship takes shape. Adam Adelson and Memo Gidley earned CrowdStrike Fast Lap Awards. Adam Adelson also racked up a ROWE Pole Award along with Scott Smithson. Jon Branam was the lone EBOOST Hard Charger Award Winner.

In Pirelli GT4 America race action Kay Van Berlo was the lone CrowdStrike Fast Lap Award winner earning the fast lap in both races. Jesse Webb and Jason Hart each won ROWE Pole Awards. Terry Borcheller and Eric Powell claimed the EBOOST Hard Charger Awards, with Borcheller taking Race One and Powell taking Race Two.

TC America powered by Skip Barber, kicked off with big names and big wins. Dai Yoishihara, alongside Kyle Loh, won the CrowdStrike Fast Lap Award. Yoshihara was also the ROWE Pole Award winner for Race One and Race Two. The EBOOST Hard Charger Award went to PJ Groenke and Christopher DeFreitas.
