Watkins Glen, New York - Upstate New York’s rolling hills were graced with warm Summer weather and the soundtrack of sports car racing as the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS took to Watkins Glen International’s 3.45-mile course.
This group of America’s top drivers are no strangers to fast laps, but the Pro-Am field in particular laid down some impressive times.
In Pro, Loris Spinelli clocked in the fastest lap of the hour-long combined session with a 1:44.201, behind the wheel of the #6 US Racetronics Mercedes-AMG GT3 that he shares with Steven Aghakhani. The next-fastest Pro car was the #33 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Philip Ellis, followed by Jordan Pepper in the #3 K-PAX Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
Later in the session, the #6 US Racetronics Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Steven Aghakhani got a flat tire coming into Turn 8 which brought out the red flag with eight minutes remaining.
In Pro-Am, Jan Heylen laid down a blistering 1:44.376 behind the wheel of the #45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R (991.ii), followed by Bryan Sellers in the #08 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. Colin Braun set the third-quickest lap with a 1:44.882, just 0.047 of a second quicker than Sellers’ 1:44.835.
Finally, Charlie Scardina drove the sole Am entry of the weekend to a 1:46.662 behind the wheel of the #23 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3.
Practice 2 starts at 3:15 PM EST this afternoon. Qualifying begins tomorrow at 9:20 AM EST, followed by Race 1 at 2:15 PM EST.
