BMW Customer Racing teams have much to choose from as the range of cars offered by BMW M Motorsport, as well as support, has expanded in 2022. From the BMW M2 CS racing in TC America powered by Skip Barber, to the BMW M4 GT4 competing in Pirelli GT4 America, to the top-of-the-line BMW M4 GT3 concept, BMW M Motorsport offers a package and program for the club racer, the amateur, and the professional in club, GT4, and GT3 classes.
BMW M Motorsport began the year and its 50th anniversary celebrations with the news that the all-new BMW M4 GT3 concept would soon be racing on circuits all over the world. The new GT3 car succeeds the BMW M6 GT3 and offers BMW M Motorsport teams and drivers all over the world the opportunity to challenge for victories and titles in a GT3 model based on the latest generation of BMW M4. The biggest improvements compared to the BMW M6 GT3, are in three areas: driveability, cost efficiency and operation. The BMW M4 GT3’s handling and cockpit equipment are more comfortable for amateur drivers, while the car is easier on the tires and offers greater consistency. Far lower lifecycle costs and longer maintenance intervals for the engine and transmission are vital economic factors.
Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport said, “The feedback from customer teams which have already competed in races with the car is very positive. I believe that we have taken a big step forward, and that is the future of course. Customer racing is clearly a mainstay of BMW M Motorsport, and we aim to continue to serve this in the future. To do that, you also need the right product, but we are convinced that we do. Enquiries and initial feedback from customer teams show us that we have taken a good step forward here in the right direction.”
The steering wheel –
One of the most unique features of the car as well as evidence that BMW is always on the leading edge is the steering wheel. Designed in cooperation with FANATEC the steering wheel is at home on the BMW M4 GT3 and a simulator. Yes, that’s right! In fact, the steering wheel may just be the first step in the BMW Customer Racing program. Use it on your simulator and when you are ready for the real thing, bring it along.
The First BMW M4 GT3 Victory –
The new BMW M4 GT3 has already had its first victory. ST Racing won the 12h Mugello to claim the first overall success in the team’s history. The crew, including co-owner and driver Samantha Tan only stepped up to the top GT3 class this season, having won the GT4 title in 2021, and was contesting only its second race with the BMW M4 GT3 after the 24h Dubai in January. After a dominant performance in the two-part event in Mugello – 5.5 hours of racing on Saturday, the remaining 6.5 on Sunday – Tan and her team-mates Nick Wittmer and Bryson Morris finished two laps clear of the second-placed car. “This win means so much to our little Canadian family,” said Tan. “I would like to thank everyone: BMW M Motorsport, Motul and everyone in the team. Absolutely everyone! That was simply phenomenal!” Now ST Racing looks to take on the challenge of competing in this year's Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS with Samantha and Nick behind the wheel.
