As the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS grid prepares for the penultimate race of the season in the UAB Medicine GT World Alabama benefiting Teal Wings of Hope event, it was a hotly contested showdown across the two fifteen-minute sessions. In the end, AF Corse USA prevailed again, earning their third ROWE Pole Position Award in a row after extending their streak from previous rounds at Road Atlanta and Road America.
Pro Class
In Qualifying 1, Michai Stephens went first overall early in the session in his no. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO and remained there all throughout Qualifying 1. He was followed by Matias Perez Companc in the No. 12 AF Corse USA Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO. Meanwhile, Justin Rothberg in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO, who trails JMF by just four points in the Pro class championship, set the third-best lap time in class and fourth overall.
AF Corse’s Frederik Schandorff went fastest in class in Qualifying 2 and third overall, followed by JMF Motorsports’ Mikael Grenier and Turner Motorsport’s Robby Foley. When combining the qualifying results, AF Corse USA scored the overall pole position ahead of Round 6 this afternoon, marking their third consecutive pole position this season. The merged qualifying times will see JMF Motorsports line up alongside them on the front row, with Turner Motorsport slotting in just behind.
Pro-Am Class
Brayton Williams, who won last time out at Road America, led the charge in the Pro-Am class in Qualifying 1 on board his No. 9 TR3 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, followed by Jason Daskalos in the No. 27 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, and Derek DeBoer in the No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO. However, in the final minutes, RS1’s Danny Dyszelski rose up to the top of the class and second overall in the No. 28 Porsche 911 GT3-R (992) EVO to take the best time in the category.
After setting the best time in all three practice sessions, Tom Sargent continued his streak and went fastest overall and in the Pro-Am class in Qualifying 2 on board the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R (992) EVO, followed by Aaron Telitz in the No. 69 Archangel Motorsports McLaren 702S GT3 EVO, and Philip Ellis in the No. 27 Mercedes.
However, the combined times put RS1 first in class and fourth overall, scoring a second-row starting position in the three-hour race. TR3 Racing sits fifth overall and second in class, accompanied by JMF Motorsports alongside them.
Am Class
AF Corse USA’s Jay Schreibman and Oswaldo Negri were reunited in the No. 163 Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO machine, as Negri returned to competition after missing the last two rounds. The duo will line up seventeenth overall on the grid.
