The GT World Challenge America powered by AWS field took to Road America Sunday morning for two fifteen-minute qualifying sessions ahead of the feature three-hour race in the afternoon. Although they had to wait a couple of months to get it done, AF Corse USA proved that the summer break had no impact on their pace as they emerged as the team to beat at the front of the field. Matias Perez Companc and Miguel Molina’s combined qualifying time secured the team’s second consecutive ROWE Pole Position Award, giving them a clear track ahead as they lead the field to green for Round 5.
Pro Class
Matias Perez Companc wasted no time establishing the No. 12 AF Corse USA Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO as a force to be reckoned with as he immediately rose to the top of the overall timesheets in the opening qualifying session and continued to improve on his own times as the session progressed. Michai Stephens put together a strong session of his own in the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, slotting into second overall. Alex Sedgwick completed the top three aboard the No. 6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3 EVO.
AF Corse USA continued its qualifying dominance in the second session, with Miguel Molina taking over driving duties in the No. 12 Ferrari and immediately picking up where his teammate left off. Molina once again placed the Ferrari at the very top of the timesheets and remained there throughout the session, ensuring the team would start from overall pole for Sunday’s feature. The result marks two consecutive overall poles for AF Corse USA, following Perez Companc’s pole-winning performance at the previous round at Road Atlanta.
Turner Motorsport also made a significant statement in the second session, with Robby Foley putting together a stellar lap in the No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. His performance vaulted the BMW to second overall in the combined qualifying results, earning Turner Motorsport a front-row starting position for the three-hour race.
JMF Motorsports made another driver change for the second session, with Mikael Grenier taking over the No. 34 Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO. Grenier placed third in class and fifth overall in the combined results.
Pro-Am Class
The Pro-Am battle was equally competitive, with Brayton Williams initially holding the advantage in the No. 9 TR3 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO. Williams led the class through the opening stages of qualifying, but Danny Dyszelski mounted a late challenge. With five minutes remaining, Dyszelski found the extra pace he needed to move ahead in the Pro-Am order aboard the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 911 GT3-R (992) EVO. Williams attempted to respond, but ultimately could not better Dyszelski’s time and settled for second in class. Dyszelski’s lap also moved the RS1 Porsche into fourth overall, putting the Pro-Am contender firmly into the fight at the sharp end of the field.
Sebastian Mascaro completed the Pro-Am top three in Qualifying 1, putting the No. 18 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 into third in class. But the second qualifying session saw Triarsi Competizione make a major gain.
Riccardo Agostini took over driving duties and delivered a standout performance, moving the No. 18 Ferrari to the top of the Pro-Am class and third overall in the combined qualifying results, putting them on the second row once the green flag waves.
TR3 Racing matched that result with a strong showing from Daniel Morad, who brought the No. 9 Mercedes-AMG to second in class and secured a spot alongside Triarsi on the second row. RS1 completed the Pro-Am top three, with the No. 28 Porsche qualifying sixth overall in the combined results.
Am Class
The Am class delivered its own battle for supremacy across the two qualifying sessions. Mitchell Green set the early benchmark in Qualifying 1, putting the No. 67 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 296 GT3 at the top of the Am class and just outside the overall top 15. AF Corse USA’s Jay Schreibman followed a few positions behind on the overall leaderboard in the No. 163 Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO.
In the second session, Benny Simonsen stepped up for AF Corse USA and produced the class-leading performance, moving the No. 163 Ferrari to first in Am and 16th overall in the combined qualifying results. Scuderia Corsa remained firmly in contention with Jon Morley, finishing just two positions behind AF Corse USA in the combined overall order.
