Wright Motorsports is set to return to the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway this October with a familiar and formidable lineup, aiming to repeat their standout performance from last year’s Indy 8 Hour. The defending winners are bringing back the same trio that kissed the bricks in 2024: Adam Adelson, Elliott Skeer, and Laurin Heinrich.
For Adelson and Skeer, their victory at the Brickyard was more than just a triumphant moment in their ongoing time together as teammates, it was a career-defining milestone as the pair clinched the GT World Challenge America Pro class championship, capping the season on the top step of the podium at one of the most venues in motorsports.
A lot has changed for them over the course of the past year, but every trip to the Speedway remains just as sentimental.
“This has always been a special race for Wright Motorsports, it just continues to bring high emotions for Adam and myself,” Elliott Skeer reflected. “In previous SRO seasons, prior to our 2024 campaign, that weekend was one of heartbreak. And then last year it was one of the dearest to our hearts where Adam grabbed his first championship, I got my first SRO championship alongside him, and then to be the first car to cross the line at the end of the race was surreal. I think that was an unbelievably proud moment for everyone within Wright.”
This time around, Wright Motorsports is approaching the eight-hour classic with a slightly different focus. They are coming into the arena as a one-off entry purely in pursuit of victory, as opposed to bearing the weight and pressure of a season-long championship charge.
“This is not a points race for us, but it holds an equal amount of excitement,” Skeer expressed. “We're going for a win. We're going for the strongest eight hours we can possibly imagine. Not having the shackle of a points race on us will lighten the mood and free us up to have some fun and see what we can do during the race.”
That confidence has been bolstered by Wright’s recent international racing efforts. Skeer and Adelson have tested themselves in Europe this season, competing against the world’s best at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring. Notably, a strong overall finish at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa further proved to them that they could measure up against top global competition.
“We saw a fair bit of the international competitors for the first time at the Indy 8 Hour last year when they came to our court,” Skeer recalled. “That gave us a good idea and taste of what we could do against them when we're at the tracks we’re familiar with, in the environments that we've grown up in. Going over to Belgium and Germany, we were now in their territory. It was definitely a different experience, but ultimately showed that we can play pretty well within their rule book.”
“I have had two really good experiences this year in SRO Europe against those guys and executing two very strong races on the new Pirelli tire has us feeling quite good about coming back to Indy and trying to put all of those pieces together,” he continued.
Additionally, they are coming equipped with a stellar third driver—Laurin Heinrich—whose growing reputation in Porsche GT racing makes him an invaluable teammate and asset no matter the setting.
“From my point of view, he is the benchmark of Porsche GT racing,” Skeer stated. “There is no single better person to have the opportunity to directly compare myself to on the same tire, same track. There is such an educational value to understanding what he does, his mindset, how he thinks about the car, and to see where we're similar and we're different. To be able to hand the car off to someone like him with an hour or two to go and say, ‘Hey, best of luck out there, go for it,’ and have him on your side is a pretty powerful feeling. This year, there's going to be even a little bit more to learn from him because he spent so much time on the current Pirelli where Adam and I have only spent two weekends on it. But ultimately I think all three of us are very comfortable at Indy and very comfortable in this race.”
The stage is set, and Wright Motorsports has history on its side. With a proven lineup, championship-winning pedigree, a wealth of knowledge and experience to pull from, the No. 120 Porsche 992 GT3.R is looking to pick up right where it left off.
“Green Porsches always seem to do well at Indy,” Skeer said with a smile. “I don't see any reason why this one should be any different. We're looking for a very high emotion weekend and hopefully a positive one once again. We're not afraid to go into Indy and give it everything.”
