A rainy morning turned gold for the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS. However, the wet track slowly drying made for varying conditions on the Sonoma Raceway track. The three classes beautifully handled the changing conditions and cold weather with 60 minutes of green practice.
PRO-Class
The PRO Class kicked off with tight lap times, as predicted. The No. 94 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT3 nudged out the competition with a 1:37.162 to top the first session thanks to drivers Chandler Hull and Bill Auberlen. The No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 of 2022 champions Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher ran a 1:37.533. A pair of Porsche GT3 R 992 took the checkered flag next. The No. 53 MDK Motorsports entry with Trenton Estep and Seth Lucas ran a 1:37.628, followed by Eric Filgueiras and Stevan McAleer in the No. 28 RS1 entry. The No. 21 Ferrari 296 GT3 rounded out the PRO Class as Manny Franco and Alessandro Balzan turned a 1:38.506
PRO-AM and AM Class
Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen topped the time charts overall and in the PRO-AM Class. The No. 45 Wright Motorsports Porsche GT3 R 992 ran a 1:42.313. Close behind was the No. 9 TR3 Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 of Ziad Ghandour and Daniel Morad, followed by Jeff Burton and Corey Lewis in the No. 91 DXDT Racing Mercedes AMG GT3. Wright Motorsports No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R with Adam Adelson and Elliot Skeer joined their sister car in the top five of the PRO-AM Class. The fifth fastest in Practice One was the No. 38 BMW M4 GT3 of ST Racing with Samantha Tan and BMW Factory Driver John Edwards.
The RealTime Racing No. 43 Mercedes AMG GT3 clocked out the first practice with a lap time of 1:40.215.
