SRO America Teams Gearing up for 2023 Season: Here's the Latest

Many teams have announced drivers and partnerships as the 2023 SRO Motorsports America series comes closer to the first green flags. These are their stories.

As the season begins to take shape, a host of new teams have made their intentions known. While many returning teams are set to announce their programs in the coming weeks. The shakeup is sure to create an exciting mix of racing throughout the field. 

Fantatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS

CONQUEST RACING: Conquest Racing returns to top-level sports car racing with co-drivers Manny Franco and Alessandro Balzan in the No. 34 Conquest Racing/Corsa Horizon Ferrari 488 GT3. Set for a full-season campaign in 2023 with the new Ferrari 296 GT3, the pairing will compete in the Pro class. Read on.

ESSES RACING: Esses Racing with Mercedes-Benz of Austin are pleased to announce Adam Carroll as the second driver to accompany Will Hardeman in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS championship in the Pro-Am category. Read on.

MDK MOTORSPORTS: After finding success across multiple Porsche single-make series, MDK Motorsports is stepping up to compete in Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS. This will be the first Fanatec GT World Challenge entry for MDK Motorsports, with Trenton Estep and Seth Lucas leading the charge in the all new Porsche 992 GT3 R. Read on.

RS1: Rennsport One announced Pirelli GT4 America Silver Champions’ Eric Filgueiras and Stevan McAleer for the 2023 season. This pairing will make their debut in the new Porsche GT3 R (992) for the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS program.

ST RACING: ST Racing is pleased to announce it will return to the GT World Challenge America as part of its racing program in 2023. Factory BMW Motorsport ace John Edwards has been named her co-driver for the full-season campaign. Read on.

THE RACERS GROUP: The Racers Group (TRG) returns to the Aston Martin racing platform to compete in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America series in the Pro-Am class. Veteran TRG driver, Derek DeBoer, will team up with Aston Martin Racing Team Professional Driver, Ross Gunn, racing the 2023 Aston Martin AMR V8 Vantage GT3. Read on.

WRIGHT MOTORSPORTS: Wright Motorsports returns in 2023 for another shot at clinching the top honors. Armed with the new No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), drivers Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen will return for a second chance at the Pro-Am class title in the sports car racing series. Read on.

GT America powered by AWS

SRO’s throwback to GT sprint racing sees continued growth for the 2023 season. The nine race calendar features two IndyCar street races and the full SRO headliner calendar from Sonoma to Indianapolis. 

FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS: 2021 GT America Powered by AWS GT4 champion Jason Bell joins the team, racing the No. 2 Aston Martin Vantage GT4. With Elias Sabo set to return with a partial race schedule in GT America alongside a Pirelli GT4 America campaign. Read on.

FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS: Longtime Lizard driver Andy Wilzoch will return to the team after a one-year hiatus, racing the No. 46 Porsche 911 GT3 R (type 991.2). Adding to the energy of the entry will be the traditional red and silver livery so closely aligned with the California-based team’s championship-winning history. Read on.

P1 GROUPE: P1 Groupe is proud to announce a new program for a full season effort in 2023 with driver Alex Vogel. OnlyFans will become primary sponsor of the No. 043 Porsche 991 GT3 R for the full season of SRO GT America. Read on. 

SKI AUTOSPORTS: After a race-winning partial debut season in SRO’s GT America series in 2022, SKI Autosports will return for 2023 with Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring race-winning veteran, Johnny O’Connell. SKI Autosports will join the GT America series at NOLA Motorsports Park in April and will race in the remaining seven races on the 2023 calendar. Read on.

Pirelli GT4 America

The continued growth of SRO’s GT4 category globally brings what’s said to be 40+ car grids to Pirelli GT4 America in 2023. With a mix of new and returning teams, we’ll see high octane action throughout the seven event championship. 

CONQUEST RACING | JMF MOTORSPORTS: Frontrunners Michai Stephens and Jesse Webb come together with a Mercedes-AMG GT4 for a season of Pirelli GT4 America racing. 

COPELAND RACING: Running separate programs in 2022, the 2023 season will see the dynamic duo of Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez back in one car at Copeland Motorsports. Bringing the band back together for the Pirelli GT4 America program, Maxson and Gonzalez will pilot a Copeland Motorsports-prepared Toyota Supra GT4 as they look to fight their way to additional SRO Motorsports Group race wins. FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS: Elias Sabo will return to the program to again race the No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in GT America and come back to fight for the Pirelli GT4 America championship crown alongside co-driver Andy Lee in the No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Read on.

SKIP BARBER RACING: Skip Barber Racing is expanding its presence at the highest levels of motorsports with a Toyota GR Supra GT4 in the Pirelli GT4 America 2023 season. Matt Forbush will pilot the new entry with Skip Barber Lead Instructor Carter Fartuch as his co-pilot. Read on.

SMOOGE RACING: TRD (Toyota Racing Development) development driver John Geesbreght, is gearing up for a championship season as the 19-year-old will again be paired with longtime co-driver and Team Principal, Kevin Conway.  The duo is looking to continue their success in Pirelli GT4 America with new primary marketing partner, CNR (Cooper Natural Resources). TECHSPORT RACING: TechSport Racing announced that the team will be running the Nissan Z GT4 in Pirelli GT4 America. The VIR based team has a long history of running the Nissan 370Z in SRO’s TC America class, which made the team a natural to run this all-new Nissan Z GT4 machine. Read on.

THE HEART OF RACING: After selecting nine racers from over 100 female applicants to participate in a two-day shootout, The Heart of Racing has announced that two promising racers will join the team starting in 2023. Hannah Grisham (USA) and Rianna O’Meara-Hunt (NZ) emerged from the talented group as the top picks following the dynamic shootout, which was held at the APEX Motor Club in Phoenix, Arizona. They’ll be joined in a second Aston Martin with Grey Newell and Ian James returning to the Pro-Am class. Read on.

TRD (Toyota Racing Development) development driver Isabella Robustois in store for a busy 2023 racing season, as the 18-year old will join Smooge Racing in Pirelli GT4 America. She will be joined by co-driver Joey DaSilva who will be making his debut in GT4 America competition after competing in GT America in 2022. DaSilva and Robusto will campaign the new Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO with South 6 IT Staffing. Read on.

RANDOM VANDALS RACING: Kenton Koch has been announced to drive one of Random Vandals Racing’s new 2023 BMW M4 GT4’s in the ProAm class for a full-season two-car effort in Pirelli GT4 America. Meanwhile, Paul Sparta and Al Carter return in the team’s second BMW in the Am category. Read on.

VAN DER STEUR RACING: The Pirelli GT4 America newcomers have announced co-drivers Brady Behrman and Coby Shield will join the series in 2023 with an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.

ZOTZ RACING: Chris Ruppel and Eric Zitza combine for their first season of Pirelli GT4 America action behind the wheel of a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

TC America powered by Skip Barber

Touring Car racing continues to be the best way to get your start in Pro Racing with a diverse mix of brands and machinery. The sprint championship will see drivers kick off the new season with different teams. 

GEN RACER | RICCAR AUTOSPORT: The team announces a three-car effort in the premier touring car sports car racing championship. Team veteran Jeff Ricca will race the brand-new #78 LIQUI MOLY GenRacer Hyundai Elantra N, and Sally McNulty will join the team racing the #780 Borla Exhaust LIQUI MOLY Hyundai Veloster N, with the third entry to be announced at a later date. SKIP BARBER RACING: The Skip Barber Racing announced that Brazilian native Celso Neto will join the Skip Barber TC America Race Team for the 2023 season. Neto will pilot the Skip Barber HPD Civic Type R competing in the TC class. Read on.

TECH SPORT RACING: TechSport Racing enters 2023 confident that they can win with the Subaru BRZ platform. TechSport is the reigning Team and Driver Champions in TCA with the Subaru BRZ and returns to the series with part of last year’s winning lineup still in place. Read on.

Lets Go Racing 

On deck, GT America powered by AWS season kicks off the earliest as the series takes on the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg March 3-5. The greater SRO Motorsports America starts the 2023 race season from March 30 through April 2 at Sonoma Raceway. This includes Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, Pirelli GT4 America and TC America powered by Skip Barber.
