CrowdStrike Racing Looks to Extend Leads at Elkhart Lake’s Road America

  • With six TC-class wins, Kevin Boehm looking to increase championship lead
  • CJ Moses ready to contend in GT America with Audi R8 LMS GT2
  • CrowdStrike to welcome guests from Midwest region for weekend of activation

AUSTIN, Texas (August 17, 2022) – CrowdStrike Racing’s full contingent of competitors will return to the racetrack in SRO Motorsports action this weekend at one of America’s great tracks – Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Four CrowdStrike Racing drivers – George Kurtz, Colin Braun, Kevin Boehm and CJ Moses – will compete in three different cars across four SRO America categories during the three-day event at 4.048-mile, 14-turn Road America.

GT World Challenge

At the forefront is Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS, where Kurtz and Braun lead the ProAm Drivers Championship after eight races. The duo, driving the No. 04 CrowdStrike/AWS Mercedes-AMG GT3 from CrowdStrike Racing with Riley Motorsports, have three victories, including an overall win in the most recent World Challenge round at Watkins Glen.

“It’s been a fantastic run for Colin and me so far in the CrowdStrike/AWS Mercedes and the Riley Motorsports team,” said Kurtz, co-founder and CEO of CrowdStrike. “The group has come together and gelled so quickly. We have a great car, a great team and great strategy. That’s a combination that is tough to beat. We look forward to continuing our success  at Road America, one of my favorite tracks and one of the best in the world.”

In addition to the three victories this year, Kurtz and Braun have recorded two additional runner-up finishes and a pair of third-place results. The duo has earned a podium spot in seven out of eight races this season. Kurtz and Braun have also had historical success at Road America, including a victory in the 2020 race.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend at Road America,” Braun said. “This is one of the best tracks in the country with some amazing fans. I feel like the Mercedes will be well suited for the longer run, as it usually is very good on tire degradation. Road America has become quite a high tire degradation track, so we will be working hard to find a setup to help this on our Crowdstrike/Riley machine! The fast and flowing nature of this track also suits both George and I’s style so we can’t wait!”

GT America

Kurtz has been just as strong in GT America Powered by AWS, sitting at the top of the championship standings  after 10 races. He’s won five times in a separate No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. In 10 races, Kurtz leads by 52 points – a gap of two full races with each contest worth 25 points.

The Road America weekend also features the return of CJ Moses in the No. 58 CrowdStrike/AWS Audi R8 LMS GT2 from GMG Motorsports. This will be Moses’ first race in the series since VIR in June, when he ended seventh and sixth in the two 40-minute races during trouble-free runs.

The wide open spaces and long straights of Road America should favor Moses and the Audi in the overall battle for victory. The Audi has more power than the traditional race-winning GT3 cars and it won’t be as limited by a smaller level of downforce.

“Road America is a race we have had circled for a long time,” Moses said. “This is the type of track the Audi R8 LMS GT2 was designed for. We should do very well there as long as we stay out of trouble. I’m excited for the weekend and can’t wait for the first laps.”

Touring Car

No driver in the CrowdStrike Racing camp has more victories in a single class this year than Kevin Boehm. Driver of the No. 9 CrowdStrike/AWS HPD Civic Type R TC, Boehm has six Touring Car America TC-class wins in eight races and hasn’t finished off the podium this season.

Road America was the site of Boehm’s first three Touring Car wins and the start of his push to the TCA Drivers Championship and Rookie of the Year in 2020.

“Road America is a sort of holy grail of tracks for anyone who races,” Boehm said. “I get a lot of pleasure out of driving around this track, but not as much as I do from winning there. The key to our success has been controlling races from the front and being consistent. If we can stay out of trouble, it should be another great weekend.”

CrowdStrike and Operation Motorsport

Team work is a key to success in any venture. A great example is the partnership between CrowdStrike and Operation Motorsport with both helping to serve retired and disabled veterans.

A not-for-profit, OpMo provides a chance for these service members to use their skill sets in a variety of areas including paddock operations, car and tire prep, marketing, social media and other key areas that are part of a racing program.

A pair OpMo beneficiaries will continue to be part of the CrowdStrike family at Road America: Craig Neri, Retired – U.S. Air Force, and Retired Air Force Technical Sgt. Michael Neri will continue their good work on Boehm’s TC program as crew members. Both will carry on the OpMo mantra of “Recovery Through Motorsports #OneAtATime.”

CrowdStrike also is a proud part of American Corporate Partners (ACP), which provides CrowdStrike mentors for service members looking to transition to the private sector, and  a partner with HireMilitary, to provide meaningful internship experiences to service members exiting the military via the DoD SkillBridge program.

Partnerships and VIPs

CrowdStrike – the Official Cloud and Internet Security provider of GT World Challenge America and SRO Motorsports America, will also host a number of guests from the company’s Midwest region, providing access to the SRO paddock and hospitality areas over the weekend.

CrowdStrike VIPs will have the chance to take in the race from all around the spacious circuit. In addition, there will be opportunities to connect with other guests while enjoying the hospitality offered in the CrowdStrike/AWS GT Paddock Club facilities plus meet-and-greet sessions with CrowdStrike Racing team members.
