Alton, Virginia - The VIRginia International Raceway greeted racers Saturday morning with sunny skies and near perfect temperatures for the two qualifying sessions of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS that would determine position for the weekend’s doubleheader. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature 90-minute battles as the season approaches the halfway point.
Race 1 Qualifying
Nineteen cars took to the field for the first round of qualifying. With a fastest lap time overall and with the pro-class of 1:43.411, Michele Beretta captured the pole position in the #1 K-Pax Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3. Following in the Pro class will be the #6 US RaceTronics Mercedes-AMG GT3 (Steven Aghakhani/Loris Spinelli), and the #3 K-Pax Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (Misha Goikhberg/Jordan Pepper).
In Pro-Am action, the #94 Bimmerworld BMW M4 GT3 (Chandler Hull/Bill Auberlen) will lead the class after laying down a fastest lap time of 1:45.115. The #04 CrowdStrike with Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 (Geroge Kurtz/Colin Braun) will start second, followed by #13 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 (Justin Wetherill/Ryan Dalziel).
The #23 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 (Charlie Scardina/Onofrio Triarsi) had a lap time of 1:44.518 to lead the Am class and fourth overall. They will compete in class with the #61 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 (Jean-Claude Saada/Conrad Grunewald).
Race 2 Qualifying
Several positions changed with even faster lap times in the second qualifying session to set the race 2 grid.
In Pro-Am class Mario Farnbacher had the fastest lap time of 1:42.525 in the #93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 for the pole position with co-driver Ashton Harrison. Following them will be the #13 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 (Justin Wetherill/Ryan Dalziel) and the #04 CrowdStrike with Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 (George Kurtz/Colin Braun).
The Pro class will be led by the #6 US Racetronics Mercedes-AMG GT3 (Steven Aghakhani/Loris Spinelli) who had a fastest lap time of 1:42:710. In second position will be the #3 K-Pax Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (Misha Goikhberg/Jordan Pepper) with K-Pax teammates Michele Beretta and Andrea Caldarelli in the #1 K-Pax Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in third
The Triarsi Competizione #23 Ferrari 488 GT3 (Charlie Scardina/Onofrio Triarsi) will lead the Am field ahead of the #61 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 (Jean-Claude Saada/Conrad Grunewald).
Race 1 will take place at 2:25 PM EST, with Race 2 at 1:15 PM on Sunday.
