inception racing confirms Indianapolis 8 Hour entry

McLaren will feature on the Indianapolis 8 Hour Powered by AWS entry next month after inception racing confirmed its participation in round two of this season's Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli campaign.

The globe-trotting British squad run by Optimum Motorsport is known for sampling myriad series and standalone races as well as mounting a full-season International GT Open campaign in Europe. Indeed, regular drivers Brendan Iribe and Ollie Millroy head to Monza this weekend eager to extend their Pro-Am championship lead.

They'll race at Indy with Iribe's compatriot Kevin Madsen who joined inception's crew at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa earlier this year. There, as at Indianapolis, the 720S GT3 will be eligible to score IGTC Pro-Am Challenge points, although its total won't count towards the Manufacturers' standings.

This will also be inception's third outing on US soil this year following class victory on its Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS debut at COTA and a GT America win at VIRginia International Raceway.

Millroy joined Madsen for two days of testing at Indy several weeks ago, while Iribe is due to sample the circuit for the first time during race week.

“Naturally as one of two proud Yankees on the team, I’m excited for the American round of the Intercontinental GT series,” said Madsen. “My side project for the weekend is to teach Bas [Leinders, Team Manager] and Shaun [Goff, Team Principal] how to play Cornhole. But seriously, any race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is an exceptional experience.

“You’re reminded of the history each time you buzz across the start-finish line and the same bricks used over 110 years ago in similar gruelling races. For this round there are the added challenges of GT4 class cars on track with us, two additional corners added to the circuit over last year and the ever-present effect that rain provides this track. Having said that, we are coming in extremely prepared and look forward to a solid result with plenty of friends and family cheering us on.”

Millroy added: “We’re really looking forward to the second round of IGTC for the Indianapolis 8 Hour following a successful test there recently. Our McLaren 720S GT3 felt great around there and it’s an awesome feeling running down between the walls on the historic start/finish straight.

“Kevin and Brendan are such solid team-mates and I really feel that together we can compete for the Pro-Am win. Our pace was strong in the first round of IGTC at the Spa 24 Hours, so hopefully we can carry that form over to Indy.”

The Indianapolis 8 Hour Powered by AWS takes place on October 15-17. Tickets are on sale at bit.ly/indy8hour
