Operation Motorsport and SRO America Honor our Heroes from 9/11 at Watkins Glen

On the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, Operation Motorsport together with SRO Motorsports America and Watkins Glen International remember and honor the victims, the families, and survivors during the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS race weekend at The Glen on September 17th – 19th.

With over 100 race cars in action at the famed New York circuit, the race weekend experience will go beyond the on-track competition to pay tribute to New York’s veterans and first responders through Operation Motorsport’s Patriot Day activities at Watkins Glen.

Active-duty service members, veterans, first responders and supporters are invited to join the Patriot Car Corral sponsored by REDCOM. The Patriot Car Corral includes exclusive VIP corral parking, access to the REDCOM hospitality center, beverages, snacks, tours, prizes, and parade laps. Active-duty military can enjoy limited free admission for the race weekend with $40 discounted tickets for Veterans offered by using coupon code WGIRACE during checkout. Discounted group tickets are also available for $20 each by using code WGISPECIAL.

“As a Foundation that bases its mission on recovery, we are privileged to play a small part in honoring our heroes on the 20th anniversary of one of the darkest days in America’s history,” says Operation Motorsport co-founder & CEO Diezel Lodder. “We are humbled by the support and dedication that SRO Motorsports America and all of our supporting partners are providing to ensure that this commemorative event is both meaningful and healing to our veterans, first responders, active service personnel and their families. We pledge that we will never forget their sacrifices.”

Retired United State Marine Corps Col. Mike Sweeney will serve as the weekend’s Grand Marshal and help kick off the Sunday’s feature event. Other planned weekend activities include the OpMo Meet & Greet on Saturday evening at the Turn 10 hospitality suite, a special memorial during pre-race ceremonies, and much more.

Official GT World Challenge America practice goes green on Friday, September 17th, at 10:50 am EDT. Qualifying sessions, as well as both races of the double-header weekend, will be streamed live on the GTWorld YouTube channel, with audio simulcasts on SiriusXM Satellite Radio channel 392 (992 on the web app). CBS Sports Network live programming begins Sunday at 1:00 pm EDT; check your local listings for channel information.
