Braun Fastest in First GT World Challenge America, GT Sports Club America Practice at Sonoma

Sonoma, CA - Colin Braun paced the field in the first GT World Challenge America powered by AWS and GT Sports Club America Series practice at Sonoma Raceway Friday morning. Jason Daskalos was fastest in the GT Sports Club series.

The 60-minute session was held under sunny, 63-degree Fahrenheit weather conditions. Pro/Am driver Braun, in the #04 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 topped the charts with a time of 1:38.216 ahead of TR3 Racing's Jeff Segal in the #24 Ferrari 488 GT3 (1:38.413). Silver division competitor Trent Hindman, piloting the #93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 posted the third fastest time with a 1:38.571, while Max Root posted the fourth fastest overall time and tops in the Am division in the Wright Motorsports #20 Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.II) (1:38.625).

In GT Sports Club, Jason Daskalos posted the fastest overall time of 1:42.551 in his #27 Daskalos Motorsports Audi R8 LMS Ultra.

Early in the session, Braun went to the top of the charts with a 1:39.110 and then steadily improved his time to the 1:38.216 before handing the reins of the #04 machine to driving partner George Kurtz for the remainder of the practice.

Root's early time of a 1:38.859 slotted him into second overall. As did Braun, Root steadily went quicker settling in at 1:38.625.

Near the end of the session, Hindman briefly held the second fastest time with 1:38.571. Then with under five minutes remaining, Segal reeled off a 1:38.413, good for second on the charts when the checkered flew.

In GT Sports Club, Daskalos set the early fast time of 1:47.661 and was never knocked off the top perch steadily going faster to a 1:42.551. Titanium class competitor Kyle Washington in the #32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT2 RS CS had the second fastest time overall and first in class with a 1:46.026. Stu Frederick, who took both Iron Division wins at VIR, was third fastest in the session in his #57 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT2 RS CS (1:46.250).

The second practice session for GT World Challenge America, and GT Sports Club America competitors is scheduled to go green at 3:10pm Pacific Friday.
