Italian luxury watch brand DESDER celebrated its American debut in style at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where it was presenting partner of the Indianapolis 8 Hour on October 10, coinciding with World Watch Day.
The event marked the first appearance of DESDER's extraordinary D001 timepiece in the United States, ahead of production beginning later this month. It also represented another milestone in the brand's growing relationship with GT World and SRO Motorsports Group, placing DESDER at the heart of one of the most prestigious events on the international GT racing calendar.
DESDER founder Fabrizio Nardini attended the race alongside master watchmaker Luca Soprana, who has been instrumental in creating the D001 and is renowned for developing some of the world's most innovative and technically complex watches.
Nardini played an active role in the weekend's proceedings, waving the flag to get the cars underway and presenting trophies to competitors following the eight-hour race. DESDER also organised a dedicated guest programme and was the star of a bespoke movie celebrating its automotive inspiration and racing heritage.
"Indianapolis is an extraordinary place, with a history and atmosphere unlike anywhere else in motorsport," said Nardini. "To see DESDER here, alongside some of the world's greatest GT cars and manufacturers, was a very emotional moment for me. Waving the flag and presenting trophies made it even more special. This is exactly the world that inspired us to create DESDER in the first place."
The timing of the American launch was particularly appropriate, with October 10 marking World Watch Day, an international celebration of watchmaking established in 2025. The date, written as 10/10, reflects the traditional position of watch hands at approximately ten minutes past ten, a configuration used by watchmakers for decades to display their creations, creating a symmetrical arrangement that showcases the dial and brand name.
For DESDER, the occasion provided an ideal opportunity to introduce the D001 to American watch collectors and automotive enthusiasts at a circuit synonymous with mechanical innovation and sporting achievement.
The D001 is the first creation from the Italian brand and represents an ambitious fusion of haute horlogerie and automotive design. Inspired particularly by the sculptural forms and pioneering engineering of automobiles from the 1920s and 1930s, it features a striking 46mm case constructed from Grade 5 titanium and steel, housing an extraordinary triple-axis tourbillon, jumping-hour digital display and GMT function, with a 45-hour power reserve.
Limited to just six examples, the D001 has been conceived as a mechanical work of art, with its exposed engineering and intricate construction reflecting the same fascination with precision, performance and beauty found in exceptional automobiles.
"The D001 is the result of an enormous amount of imagination, passion and technical development," added Nardini. "We wanted to create something genuinely different, a watch that captures the emotion of an extraordinary automobile. To introduce it in America, at Indianapolis, on World Watch Day, was the perfect way to celebrate everything that has gone into the project."
DESDER's involvement reflects its ambition to establish a lasting presence in international motorsport, using its partnership with GT World to reach audiences who share its enthusiasm for engineering, design and automotive culture.
