The dual fifteen-minute GT World Challenge America powered by AWS qualifying sessions wrapped up the Saturday schedule at Road Atlanta as the field used everything they learned across practice to set the field ahead of the Sunday feature race. It was a tightly contested battle, with Pro and Pro-Am entries vying for every position. In the end, a breakthrough performance from AF Corse USA saw them score their first ROWE Pole Award of the season after showing so much promise across the early rounds.
Pro Class
Matias Perez Companc held on to the top spot for most of Qualifying 1 in his No. 12 AF Corse USA Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO, until Michai Stephens came storming in at the end with his No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO to go quickest, bumping Companc to second. Cameron Lawrence went third quickest in class and overall in the No. 6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3.
In Qualifying 2, it initially looked as though it would be another JMF Motorsports masterclass. However, Robby Foley, the winner last time out in Sebring, went quickest in his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO with a time of 1:19.522. Frederik Schandorff went second-fastest in class but fourth overall with the Ferrari, with JMF’s Mikael Grenier setting the third-best time in class and eighth in total.
When combining the qualifying times, it was the prancing horse that galloped ahead with AF Corse USA earning their first overall pole position of the season. JMF Motorsports will start alongside them on the front row, with Justin Rothberg and Robby Foley sitting just behind in the running order.
Pro-Am Class
Todd Coleman had a great Qualifying 1 session, going fastest in class and sixth overall with his No. 69 Archangel Motorsports McLaren 720S GT3 EVO, accompanied by Brayton Williams in the No. 9 TR3 Racing Mercedes and Dave Musial Jr. from Wright Motorsports in the No. 31 Porsche 911 GT3-R (992) EVO just behind.
Philip Ellis was quick to impress in his one-off appearance with JMF Motorsports, scoring the fastest Pro-Am time in the No. 27 Mercedes-AMG GT3, just marginally behind the best time overall. Archangel Motorsports counterpart Aaron Telitz also delivered on his end, going second-quickest in the Pro-Am class and third overall in the second session. Current championship leader, GMG Racing’s Tom Sargent, slotted into third in Pro-Am and fifth on the board with the No. 32 Porsche 911 GT3-R (992) EVO.
The impressive performance from Archangel Motorsports saw them vault up to first in the combined Pro-Am times, earning a second-row starting position for tomorrow’s race as they line up fourth on the grid. They will have a small buffer between them and their next closest competitor as TR3 Racing’s Brayton Williams and Daniel Morad will start from sixth, another two spots ahead of Jason Daskalos and Philip Ellis.
Am Class
Jay Schreibman and Benny Simonsen will start from nineteenth overall with their No. 163 AF Corse USA Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO, as the new driver pairing seeks to complete a strong weekend of competition together.
