Warm Winter Weekend Closes Out GT Sports Club Racing at Thermal

Thermal, Calif. - The combined classes consisting of GT3, GT Sports Club, GT2, and GT Cup racers took the tarmac on the final rounds of the double-header weekend at the Thermal Club. The moderate Southern California weather made for excellent racing on the private course in California's high-desert.

Dimitri Novikov took the top podium spot on the newly-introduced GT Sports Club GT2 class in the #64 Rearden Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2. In the #13 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, Mike LaFever took the second spot on the podium while the partner #14 GT2 Porsche from GMG took the third position with driver Karl Leinsing behind the wheel.

GT Sports Club Cup top honors went to the #35 TruSpeed AutoSport Jon Winthrop in the Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup machine, seasoned drivers David Askew (#63 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3) and Stu Frederick (#57 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport ) captured the GT Club Sport Titanium and Iron awards, respectively.

GT Sport Club Overall top spots went to the powerful GT3 cars in attendance. Overall top spot went to Conrad Grunewald on the #18 R3 Motorsports Ferrari 488 GT3. In second place was Steve Aghakhani in the #6 US RaceTronics / O'Gara Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. Third place overall went to DXDT's David Askew.

The final pair of races in the inaugural Winter Invitational will take place on February 7-9, 2020 at The Thermal Club.
