GT Sports Club Action Heats Up the Winter Invitational

Thermal, Calif. - Racers took to the track in the first contests of the new year for the Winter Invitational at The Thermal Club. A field of almost twenty cars over several classes raced in Saturday's Round 3 competition after a morning of practice and qualifying.

In GT3 Overall, Conrad Grunewald took the top spot on the podium in the #18 R3 Motorsports Ferrari 488 GT3. Young upstart Steven Aghakhani captured the second spot in the #6 US RaceTronics / O'Gara Motorsport Mercedes AMG-GT3. Closing out the podium was another Mercedes from the DXDT Racing camp piloted by David Askew.

Veteran askew also managed the top spot in the Titanium category in the #63 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, while seasoned vet Stu Frederick piloted the #57 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport to the top spot in the Iron class. In the GT Sports Club Cup category, it was the #35 TruSpeed AutoSport Porsche 911.2 and Jon Winthrop at the helm taking top honors.

In the new GT2 class, Stu Frederick took top honors in the #57 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport. Mike LaFever and Karl Leinsing piloted their respective Porsche GT2 machines - the #13 and #14 units both racing under the GMG Racing banner - to the second and third places on the podium.

Racers take to the track for Round 4 of competition with qualifying at 10:15 am PT and the final round of the weekend going green at 1:00 pm PT.
