In racing, every point matters. Championships can be won or lost depending on the outcome of a single race over the course of an entire season. Across SRO America championships, points are the foundation of every title fight, determining standings for drivers, teams, and manufacturers.
However, the most important thing to understand is that points are awarded based on class position, not overall ranking.
For example, a Pro-Am car finishing first in class will earn maximum points for its category, even if several Pro cars finish ahead. The same applies for Am and Pro categories.
SRO America uses a standardized points structure across its championships, rewarding the top finishers in each class:
1st – 25 points
2nd – 18 points
3rd – 15 points
4th – 12 points
5th – 10 points
6th – 8 points
7th – 6 points
8th – 4 points
9th – 2 points
10th – 1 point
This system rewards consistency as much as outright wins. Regular podium finishes can be just as valuable as occasional victories when it comes to the season-long championship battle. Because points extend beyond just the podium, battles throughout the field are significant.
Additionally, some marquee races carry even more weight. In GT World Challenge America, the Indianapolis 8 Hour counts for double points, and the same applies in Pirelli GT4 America for the Lone Star Enduro at Circuit of The Americas.
In the end, wins provide big gains, consistency keeps teams in contention, and one good or bad weekend can drastically shift the standings.
