Marcelli Grabs Overall Blancpain GT World Challenge America Round 12 Pole at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, WI - Pro/Am Division driver Kyle Marcelli scored the overall pole for Sunday's Blancpain GT World Challenge America Round 12 at Road America. Wisconsin's National Park of Speed will host the series' two 90-minute Rounds 11 and 12 September 21 and 22.

The 15-minute qualifying session was held under partly cloudy 78-degree Fahrenheit weather conditions. Canadian Marcelli, driving the #80 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX set the early fast time of 2:05.469 to top the charts.

Fellow Pro/Am division competitor Dane Cameron, driving for local favorites and series veterans RealTime Racing from Saukville, Wisconsin posted a 2:05.544 to slot into second overall on the charts and second in class. Ryan Dalziel from Scotland in the DXDT Racing #63 Mercedes-AMG GT3 slotted into third overall and third in class with a 2:05.549, while Pro/Am driver Australian Matt Campbell #91 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R (991) followed with a 2:05.821 and then improved his time to a 2:05.714, good for 4th on the grid.

Pro division pilot Portugal’s Alvaro Parente in the #9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 then slotted into 5th with a 2:05.821. Soon after, driver championship points leader Finland's Toni Vilander in the #61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 eclipsed Parente's time with a 2:05.765.

At the checkered, the top times held. Marcelli will lead the 14-car field to the green for the scheduled 2:15 pm Central start on Sunday. Am division's Takuya Shairasaka in the #96 Turner Motorsport BMW F13 M6 GT3 posted a 2:07.781, good for 12th on the grid.

"So far a good start here in Elkhart Lake, I love this place," said Marcelli. "It's a long lap but when you get it right it's rewarding, thankfully today we got it right and we're starting on the pole position for Race 2. Today's race (Round 11) is going to be a bit of a challenge, we're starting 9th, maybe some weather will show up and that could throw a wrench into things, but we'll take it either way."
