Racers Edge Motorsports Bounces Back with First Overall Victory of the Season

Mario Farnbacher and Ashton Harrison scored their first overall victory of the season, and another podium in the Racers Edge Motorsports NSX GT3 Evo22, in Rounds 5 & 6 of the SRO GT World Challenge America series at Circuit of the Americas this weekend.

On Sunday, Farnbacher started second in Pro and seventh overall, then quickly gained three positions overall and the Pro-class lead in less than three minutes of racing. He then climbed two positions to third overall after another 10 minutes before entering the pits.

Harrison exited the pits in second, but soon made a successful pass for the lead.  She then maintained a steady pace through the finish, earning Racers Edge Motorsports its first overall victory of the season and second Pro class victory since Round 2 at Sonoma Raceway.

On Saturday, Harrison started near the back of the grid: fifth in class and 15th overall. Harrison climbed five positions overall in the first 20 minutes of racing, but she lost some of that progress after serving a drive-through penalty issued due to contact with another racer at the start of the race.

Near the end of her stint, a major collision between the Pro class leaders in Turn 1 triggered a yellow flag. The safety car remained on-track for more than 10 minutes, delaying the pit window opening.

Farnbacher, starting his stint third in Pro, steadily worked through out-of-class traffic, making his way to the next Pro class racer and seventh overall with less than 30 minutes remaining. Farnbacher stayed close on his competitor’s tail and eventually passed when his challenger was black-flagged due to a damage. He maintained his second-in-class position to the checkers.

Quotes

Ashton Harrison (#93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo22), following Sunday's race win: “Every time I came into the back straightaway, I had a millisecond to look into the last corner. The last five or six laps, I started to see [Filgueiras’] car, and I just knew that there was a gap and that if we kept our heads down and watched the weather, we would win this race. Mario did an amazing job at the start. He’s more than half the reason we’re in this position; I’m so thankful for him.”

Mario Farnbacher (#93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo22), following Sunday's race win: “First of all, it was not an easy weekend [in the previous event at NOLA]. It was a big setback. We had the pace there, but it didn’t work out like we wanted to, so this weekend [at COTA] was a good recovery from that. We’re really happy.”
