GT World Challenge America Heads to Racing Capital of the World for Exciting 2020 Season Finale Weekend, Part of Inaugural Indianapolis 8 Hour

Indianapolis, IN - The GT World Challenge America powered by AWS Series will make its first ever visit to the world-famous Brickyard and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, October 2-4. Utilizing the 2.439 mile, 14-turn road course circuit in the "Racing Capital of the World", GT World Challenge competitors will earn championship points for the first 3-hours of the Indianapolis 8 Hour to close out the 2020 season. Sunday's season finale is now a part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli round as a make-up event for the cancelled Canadian Tire Motorsports Park event. 

Fuentes/Baptista Look to Clinch at Indy

Squadra Corse's Martin Fuentes and Rodrigo Baptista impressively swept the weekend at COTA winning Rounds 9 and 10 and hold a strong 49-point lead in the Pro/Am division championship coming into the weekend. Driving the #1 Ferrari 488 GT3, Fuentes from Mexico and Brazilian Baptista will look to complete a championship crowning weekend as part of Sunday’s expanded Indianapolis 8 Hour Intercontinental GT Challenge race - GT World Challenge competitors will essentially be competing in two races on Sunday, one to complete the points for GT World Challenge competition and then one as part of an expanded international GT3 field to challenge for podiums in the Indy 8 Hour.

DXDT Racing's George Kurtz and Colin Braun come into the Indy weekend sitting in second behind the Squadra Corse leaders. The American duo will drive the #04 Mercedes-AMG GT3. DXDT Racing also brings its #63 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 for American David Askew and veteran Scot racer Ryan Dalziel. The duo sits third in the championship standings. Racer's Edge Motorsports brings its #80 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 for American Ziad Ghandour and Canadian Kyle Marcelli.

Shelby Blackstock and Trent Hindman continued their impressive 2020 performance at COTA winning both Silver division races and will look to close out the season on a high note. With the Silver division Championship wrapped up, the duo will look to help solidify a manufacturers' championship for Acura. They will pilot the #93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3. Also competing in the Silver division at Indy, Vital Speed brings its #7 Ferrari 488 GT3 for Americans Trevor Baek and Jeff Westphal.

With his successful debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans complete, up-and-coming US pilot Max Root returns to the series to pair up with teammate Fred Poordad to compete in the Am division behind the wheel of the #20 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.II). With the Am championship title clinched, the duo will again look to compete for overall podium spots at Indy.

On-track action begins Friday, October 2 at 1:40 Eastern for the first GT World Challenge practice session of the weekend. Sunday's Indianapolis 8 Hour race will be an expanded three-hour 2020 finale race, scheduled to start at 10 am Eastern. Both races and qualifying will be streamed live on youtube.com/GTWorld. Sunday's race will be broadcasted live on CBS Sports Network.
